Dr. Scott Clack

Meet the clinic founder Dr. Scott Clack, B.Sc., ND

Dr. Clack became interested in Naturopathic Medicine based on his personal beliefs and experiences. He believes that every person is responsible for their life-long health and wellness, and that health starts with the basics: good diet, exercise, proper sleep, and mental/spiritual balance. In his early 20's, Dr. Clack found that eliminating dairy products, wheat and orange juice from his diet reduced chronic sinus congestion that often led to sinus infections. Those sinus infections were more effectively treated with herbal medicines and nasal rinses compared to over-the-counter medicines or antibiotics. Later, he observed a family member whose chronic migraine headaches stopped after following an elimination diet and naturopathic cleansing program.

The Healing Power of Nature (aka The Vis Medicatrix Naturae, a core principle of Naturopathic Medicine) was very obvious through these examples. Realizing that conventional (modern) medicine rarely directed patients to lifestyle choices for their care, he resigned from his sales career and embarked on his naturopathic training in 1992.

Dr. Clack is a naturopathic doctor, he believes that complementary and alternative medicine, and naturopathic medicine in particular, should be utilized by all Canadians. The basics for health, as shown earlier are:

  1. Healthful diet: whole foods, more vegetables, less meat and grains, and organic foods where possible. Every person should be assessed for food sensitivies that are overlooked in the mainstream. Common food sensitivities are: dairy, wheat or gluten, corn, sugar and eggs. (for more information, please refer to Food Allergies and Sensitivities on this website)
  2. Exercise: Canadians aren't moving physically like we need to. Exercise recommendations haven't changed in years - 3 times a week, 45-60 minutes, minimum.
  3. Sleep: 7-8 hours per night, sound & uninterrupted sleep. If you are not getting this, you need to find out why. Children need more sleep than this.
  4. Mental and spiritual health: another factor of wellness that is often compromised in the modern crunch for time. Many options are available and can be discussed with your practitioners.

Finding the cause is another key naturopathic principle. In addition to physical examinations, Oakville Naturopathic Wellness Centre provides patients to a wide array of testing and diagnostic options:

  • Conventional diagnostic screening tests through Gamma-Dynacare Labs (use of LifeLabs or CML is also possible)
  • Food Allergy & Sensitivity testing - IgE, IgG & IgA
  • Functional assessment and/or diagnostic testing through labs such as Great Plains Laboratory, Genova Diagnostics (MetaMatrix), Rocky Mountain Analytical, and Doctor's Data Lab.
  • BioEnergetic Evaluations
  • Referral to Meridian Testing Centre for Live Cell Analysis
  • Medical Thermography

One of Dr. Clack's mentors told him that the real tools and knowledge he would use in his practice would come from post-graduate training and education, building on the foundational training from Bastyr. Dr. Clack took that insight to heart, and attends many seminars and conferences throughout the course of the year. This extra training gives patients access to several therapies that are not available from all naturopathic doctors, including:

Allergy Desensitization (NAET method) - Dr. Clack received initial training in Nambudripad's Allergy Elimination Techniques in 2000. The treatment was developed through combining chiropractic and acupuncture theory and practices, resulting in a process that energetically rebalances a person's tolerance to foods and other allergens. It may be effective for hormonal balancing and mood disorders.

Biomedical Approaches to Autism, ADHD and other developmental disorders - Dr. Clack has attended a variety of training sessions and conferences on Biomedical Medicine for ASD/ADHD children since 2002. He completed DAN! (Defeat Autism Now!) Physician training in September 2005 and updated his training in May 2008 (Chicago) and October 2009 (Las Vegas). He has also attended Physician Training through Great Plains Laboratory on five occasions since March 2006, and lectured at GPL training conferences (for parents and health care providers) in London, Kitchener, South Carolina and Toronto. So far, Dr. Clack has consulted with over 700 families struggling with these disorders.

Reiki - Dr. Clack has completed Level 2 training in Reiki. This "hands-on" energetic healing method is effective for many conditions, and is often incorporated in his integrated treatment plans.
